The message is simple; do something nice for someone and ask nothing in return other than they do something nice for someone else. Part of the beauty of the initiative is that it doesn’t have to cost a cent. Holding a door open, words of thanks and encouragement, telling someone they’ve done a good job – these are the kinds of acts that citizens ‘pay forward’ on this special day.
Review the list of participating businesses below where you can pick up Random Act of Kindness Day® cards beginning Tuesday October 31, 2017. The cards encourage the holder to perform a simple act of kindness for someone, then hand over the card to that person, and encourage him or her to do the same.
Research shows: Kindness is contagious. Kindness increases group cohesion and employee engagement. It’s a great team-building opportunity. A great way to thank clients. It teaches children to appreciate those around them. It involves and empowers everyone. How often can we say that?
At Durham Community Foundation we believe Random Act of Kindness Day® builds community and philanthropy, reminding us of how wonderful it is to live, work and play in the Region of Durham. To assist individuals, businesses and charities with performing Random Acts of Kindness, there are free and downloadable resources below.

Help Us Spread the Word
Here’s some simple things you can do to help spread the word, and encourage kindness on RAK Day
The following opportunities will be available on Friday, November 3, 2017. Please join us and help us engage our entire region in Random Act of Kindness Day® activities:
Every RAK day image shared on our Facebook page on RAK Day, Friday November 3, 2017 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm will be entered for a chance for one person to win $500 towards their favourite registered charity in the Region of Durham. The contribution is made possible by The Pension Specialists team of Shelley Johnston and Ian Burns and is a wonderful example of their commitment to our community.
